Tragic Electrocution at Durga Puja Pandal: Little Girl Dies Due to Organisers’ Negligence in Prayagraj

PRAYAGRAJ: A  horrifying incident at a Durga Puja pandal in Kashi Raj Nagar, Katghar, Muthiganj area has left the city in shock, after an 11-year-old girl lost her life due to electrocution, allegedly caused by exposed or faulty wiring.

The victim, Lado, the daughter of Dharma Nishad, was visiting the pandal with her family on Monday night when the tragedy occurred.

According to police reports, the main entrance of the pandal was overcrowded, and in an attempt to find a narrow exit, Lado accidentally came into contact with a live wire.

Despite her immediate collapse, no prompt medical assistance was arranged by the Puja Committee, forcing family members to carry her on their shoulders to a nearby hospital. Sadly, she could not be saved.

Father Lodges FIR Against Committee Members

In response to the incident, Lado’s father, Dharma Nishad, lodged a formal complaint at the Muthiganj police station, highlighting gross negligence on the part of the organisers.

Following his complaint, police have registered a named FIR under Section 304A of the IPC against two committee members, Abhishek Kesrawani and Kshitij Kesrawani, for causing death by negligence.

Investigations are currently underway, and authorities have confirmed that the body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem formalities.

Committee’s Negligence Under Scrutiny

Eyewitnesses and family members have alleged that the fatal electrocution was caused by a naked or improperly insulated wire, a danger that could have been avoided with proper safety precautions.

Lado’s uncle, Vishal Nishad, condemned the Puja Committee for their lack of emergency preparedness. “When Lado collapsed due to the electric shock, we appealed to the committee to arrange an ambulance or any transport, but they did nothing.

We had to carry her ourselves,” he said, expressing that timely help might have saved her life.

Wider Concerns Over Safety Measures

This incident has raised serious questions about safety arrangements at local Durga Puja pandals. Investigations by the electricity department revealed that many committees had not taken temporary legal electric connections, instead relying on unauthorized or makeshift wiring.

Following the tragedy, electricity officials inspected over 40 pandals across seven divisions, issuing notices and taking corrective measures to prevent similar accidents.

ACP Rajkumar Meena of Atarsuiya confirmed, “The girl’s death occurred due to electrocution near the main entrance of the pandal.

Named FIRs have been filed against two committee members, and a thorough investigation is underway. Further action will be taken based on the findings.”

The tragic loss of Lado underscores the critical importance of safety protocols during public festivals, especially when children are involved.

While Durga Puja is a celebration of devotion and community, negligence in arrangements like electric connections, crowd management, and emergency support can have devastating consequences.
