Dredging, stopping erosion and stabilising flow of holy Ganga from Shastri bridge to sangam nose has begun.
Sangam Nagari or Allahabad now renamed Prayagraj is bracing up to receive pilgrims from all over the world.
A few important government departments that play major role during yearly Magh Mela and Kumbh have started work but at slow pace.
From ages Ganga river had been changing its flow in a vast stretch of land here because of sprawling sandy bed on both sides.
The change in its course triggers unpredictable soil erosion every year.
At times Ganga changes its flow twice in a week. Hence, in view of increasing number of pilgrims it has been decided to bring stability in one area to facilitate easy bathing and also to control soil erosion.
In a way, efforts are on to tame the holy river in a limited way.
This work taken up by the irrigation department would also help in having a larger tent city that comes up on both sides of the river.
The Kumbh and Maha Kumbh witness sea of humanity converging here.
Millions of sanatan religion followers and others are expected to come here during the 2025 Kumbh.
However,Commissioner Prayagraj division Vijay Vishwas Pant felt dissatisfied with the quality and pace of work during inspection.
He inspected several Kumbh related works in the old city but found them lacking in quality.
