The Uttar Pradesh government has made significant progress in its ambitious plan to develop industrial corridors along the state’s major expressways, acquiring nearly 3,827 hectares of land so far.

This represents approximately 70% of the total approved land required for the project, according to an official statement released on Monday by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA).

The state government has reportedly invested more than ₹5,500 crore towards land acquisition, including expenditures on stamp duty and registration charges.

These industrial corridors, being developed along the Ganga Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, and the Gorakhpur Link Expressway, are part of a broader strategy to transform Uttar Pradesh into a $1-trillion economy.

Strategic Industrial Development Across Key Sectors

The UPEIDA stated that these corridors are envisioned to foster a wide range of industries, including warehousing, logistics, electronics, pharmaceuticals, food processing, and information technology (IT). The initiative aims to boost industrial development in both urban and rural areas, contributing to inclusive economic empowerment and long-term growth for the state.

According to the statement, nearly 20,000 landowners have already been compensated as part of the land acquisition and purchase process. This large-scale compensation drive reflects the government’s intent to promote equitable development by ensuring that landowners benefit directly from the state’s industrialization efforts.

Progress of Land Acquisition Across Expressway Corridors

1. Ganga Expressway Corridor:
Over 1,043 hectares of land have been acquired along the Ganga Expressway corridor. Of this, approximately 998 hectares were directly purchased, while 45 hectares were reclaimed.

This marks over 70% completion of the total land requirement for this corridor. Industrial development is planned at 11 key locations spanning across 12 districts, which will serve as crucial growth nodes.

2. Bundelkhand Expressway Corridor:
The Bundelkhand region has seen one of the highest levels of land acquisition, with over 1,528 hectares secured. This includes 1,475 hectares purchased from landowners and an additional 53 hectares reclaimed.

These acquisitions amount to 80% of the total approved land. Districts such as Banda and Jalaun are expected to see significant economic benefits from the industrial development along this route.

3. Purvanchal Expressway Corridor:
In the eastern part of the state, approximately 873 hectares have been acquired along the Purvanchal Expressway, representing 60% of the approved land.

The industrial hubs planned along this corridor are expected to drive development in several key districts, including Lucknow, Barabanki, Sultanpur, Azamgarh, and Ghazipur.

These hubs will serve as centers for manufacturing and service industries, creating employment and boosting local economies.

4. Gorakhpur Link Expressway Corridor:
The Gorakhpur Link Expressway has also seen strong progress, with over 168 hectares of land acquired—more than 80% of the approved area.

This corridor will host two major industrial hubs, expected to have a direct impact on the economic landscape of Gorakhpur and Azamgarh districts.

The state government plans to introduce specialized industrial clusters along this route to attract targeted investments.

5. Agra-Lucknow Expressway Corridor:
Along the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, more than 212 hectares of land have been secured for industrial development. The corridor will facilitate the establishment of industrial townships in the districts of Firozabad, Agra, Etawah, and Kannauj.

These townships are expected to host a variety of industries and serve as high-potential zones for business and employment.

Driving Toward a $1-Trillion Economy

The state government emphasized that these expressway-linked industrial zones are key to its broader vision of making Uttar Pradesh a $1-trillion economy.

By aligning infrastructure development with industrial policy, the state aims to attract investments, enhance exports, and create large-scale employment opportunities across sectors.

In addition to driving economic activity, the government also sees this initiative as a means of addressing regional disparities, with industrial corridors acting as catalysts for growth in historically underdeveloped regions like Bundelkhand and Purvanchal.

UPEIDA officials reiterated that land acquisition is progressing smoothly, with cooperation from landowners and local authorities.

As construction and planning activities gather pace, the industrial corridors are expected to transform Uttar Pradesh’s economic landscape, linking prosperity to infrastructure in a meaningful and lasting way.
