Nagpur: Dr Mohan Bhagwat, the Sarsanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has emphasized the need for unity among diverse sections of Indian society, environmental responsibility, and the pursuit of a self-reliant nation.

Addressing swayamsevaks and the broader public, he outlined a vision for social harmony rooted in cultural values and regional stability, while also expressing concerns about developments in neighboring Bangladesh.
Dr. Bhagwat began by underscoring the importance of internal unity within Indian society, urging individuals and families to overcome barriers and cultivate genuine inclusivity.
“There should be friendship between individuals and families across all classes and strata of society. We must take the initiative at the individual and family level,” he asserted.
He advocated for shared participation in each other’s festivals, transforming them into communal celebrations.
Additionally, he emphasized the need for unity in public spaces and places of worship, advocating for inclusive participation in temples, water bodies, and crematoriums.
Dr. Bhagwat called for solidarity with marginalized communities, likening society’s responsibility to that of a family caring for its vulnerable members. “The able-bodied must consider the needs of those who are weaker,” he explained.

Addressing the situation in Bangladesh, Dr. Bhagwat expressed alarm over the increasing persecution of Hindus and other minorities.
He noted a worrying rise in violence and unrest and called for vigilance from India. “We have observed growing incidents of violence against minorities in Bangladesh.
The government and society there must ensure that such acts of persecution cease,” he stated. He urged the Indian government to monitor developments closely, advocating for regional stability through diplomatic efforts.
“India must work to halt this persecution and ensure that the region remains peaceful,” he asserted, highlighting India’s role in safeguarding human rights in neighboring countries.
Shifting the focus to environmental issues, Dr. Bhagwat expressed serious concerns over the degradation of natural resources and the adverse impacts of climate change.
He pointed out that India is currently facing extreme weather events that stem from unsustainable development practices.
“We are experiencing unusual intensity in our seasons,” he remarked, referring to erratic weather patterns affecting the nation.
He called for a return to traditional, holistic approaches to development that align with India’s cultural values.
“Much more needs to be done to build an integrated path for development that overcomes our current challenges,” he emphasized.
To combat environmental degradation, he recommended three simple practices: conserving water, avoiding single-use plastics, and planting trees. “We can start from our homes with these small actions,” he advised.
In discussing the erosion of traditional values (Zanskar), Dr. Bhagwat stressed the role of family, education, and social leaders in nurturing ethics and cultural pride.
He praised the New Education Policy for including value-based education but highlighted the necessity for teachers to lead by example.
“Without exemplary conduct from teachers, this education will lack effectiveness,” he cautioned. He also reinforced the importance of self-reliance (Atmanirbharta), urging citizens to prioritize locally made products over imports to support the domestic economy.
Dr. Bhagwat reiterated the significance of unity and tolerance within India’s diverse population, advocating for peaceful coexistence.
“No conspiracy to divide society will succeed if we remain united,” he stated, warning against intolerance and hatred as threats to national integrity.
He emphasized that India’s strength on the global stage hinges on its unity, declaring, “When power is established, it becomes the foundation of peace.”
Dr. Bhagwat concluded by invoking the spirit of collective strength, likening it to the victory of Goddess Durga over evil, and drawing a parallel between the RSS’s mission and the collective effort for the well-being of the nation.
