Despite stepped-up security and vigil an attempt to derail Swatantrata Senani Express train was made by keeping a heavy wooden log on the track in Gazipur district.
As a result of the impact, one of the engine pipes got damaged. This snag forced the engine to wait for repairs for around two and a half hours.
Meanwhile, a part of the track was found damaged in Rajnipur, Jaunpur after Suheldev Express had crossed over the damaged portion.
In both incidents reports have been lodged with the police and investigations were being carried out.
Sources, however, do not rule out sabotage theory as such cases were distinctly on the rise in Uttar Pradesh.
Keeping logs, boulders and other heavy metals on tracks clearly indicates the involvement of a group of anti-national elements who were committing such dangerous acts that involve the safety and security of train passengers.
