Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant on Saturday emphasized that the Supreme Court serves not only influential or high-profile individuals but also ordinary citizens seeking justice.
Speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2025 in New Delhi, he said that several reforms will soon be implemented in the apex court, including prioritization of certain categories of cases to ensure faster resolution.
CJI Surya Kant stated that he is personally focusing on prioritizing listed matters and is receiving full cooperation from fellow Supreme Court judges.
Recalling his early career, he said, “When I began as a lawyer, I realized that reaching my goals would require patience and perseverance.”
Digital Arrest: A Growing Challenge
The Chief Justice highlighted the emerging threat of ‘digital arrest’, calling it a new and serious challenge for the judiciary.
He explained that cyber fraudsters are now exploiting technology to deceive people by impersonating law enforcement agencies and creating fear of false arrest.
The judiciary, he noted, must adapt rapidly to tackle new forms of cybercrime.
Ensuring Quick and Cost-Effective Justice
To address pending cases efficiently, the CJI advocated for a Unified National Judicial Policy, aimed at reducing litigation costs and ensuring quicker judicial outcomes.
“Our priority is to minimize the cost of litigation and deliver judgments without unnecessary delays,” he said.
He stressed that timely and affordable justice is the backbone of public trust in the legal system, and achieving this is an urgent national responsibility.
