Prayagraj; The sessions court, has sentenced a daughter-in-law to life imprisonment, who threw acid on her mother-in-law due to domestic strife and animosity while she was sleeping. After 20 years, the court found the accused daughter-in-law Madhuri Kushwaha guilty of this sensational case of 2004 and sentenced her to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 40,000.
This decision, which came after 20 years, brought relief to the son (devar) and daughter (devrani) of the murdered Sudama Devi, who got their mother’s killer (bhabhi) punished after a long fight. The court also said in its decision that 90 percent of the fine should be given to the deceased Sudama Devi’s son and daughter i.e. Monu Kushwaha and Pooja Kushwaha.
This decision was given by sessions judge Santosh Rai on Thursday after hearing the accused’s lawyer and district government counsel and examining the evidence available on the record.
After the gruesome incident of the acid attack, the deceased’s son – Monu, who is a devar of the accused, had lodged an FIR against her bhabhi.
Rohit alias Monu Kushwaha, resident of Naya Purva of Kareli locality, who filed the case had reported that on the night of May 20, 2004, his mother Sudama Devi was sleeping on the roof when suddenly his bhabhi (sister-in-law) – Madhuri, out of enmity and animosity, poured acid on her face and body and burnt her. She was completely burnt due to this. She died during treatment in the hospital.
Subsequently, after investigation, the chargesheet was filed against Madhuri and thereafter, the trial commenced.
The court recorded the statements of six witnesses before pronouncing the sentence. The testimony was given several times. There was a chance for debate and cross-examination.
It is said that their daughter-in-law – Madhurima used to fight a lot with her mother-in-law. There used to be arguments between the two almost every day. This was increasing the domestic discord. Due to resentment, when the daughter-in-law saw that her mother-in-law was sleeping alone on the roof, she threw acid at her.
