Political Controversy Erupts in Uttar Pradesh
Prayagraj: In a bold and emotional letter addressed to Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, expelled SP legislator Pooja Pal, who represents the Chail constituency in Prayagraj district, has made a sensational statement, saying that if she is ever killed, Akhilesh Yadav should be considered responsible.
The MLA shared the letter on social media platforms X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, voicing grave concerns over her personal safety.
She alleged that ever since her expulsion from the Samajwadi Party, she has been receiving threats and now fears she might meet the same fate as her late husband.
Pooja Pal’s late husband, Raju Pal, a former MLA, was murdered in a high-profile case in 2005, an incident that shook Uttar Pradesh politics. In her letter, Pooja Pal accused Akhilesh Yadav and the Samajwadi Party leadership of shielding powerful criminals and undermining justice for her husband’s killers.
Allegations of Bias and “Selective Justice”
Pooja Pal recounted her journey in politics, saying she had risen through struggles to become an MLA multiple times.
Initially, she joined the Samajwadi Party believing that Akhilesh Yadav would deliver justice to marginalized communities, Dalits, and the poor. However, she claims she soon discovered a deep-rooted bias within the party.
According to her, while Dalits and backward communities were treated as “second-class citizens,” Muslims were consistently prioritized within the party.
She alleged that notorious criminals enjoyed protection and respect under SP’s rule, often being elevated in political circles instead of facing punishment.
“Delivering justice to victims and punishing culprits has never been a priority for the Samajwadi Party,” she wrote, adding that the party’s policies left her deeply disillusioned.
Praise for BJP’s Governance
In contrast, Pooja Pal commended the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, claiming that under BJP rule, criminals—no matter how influential—face strict punishment. She said the conviction of those involved in her husband’s murder was only made possible because of the BJP’s administration.
“When the culprits and their families finally faced justice, it was the Samajwadi Party and the Saifai family who opposed this action, raising their voice from the streets to the State Assembly. That was the moment I lost all faith in the SP,” she wrote.
Expulsion and Vote Controversy
Pooja Pal also addressed her recent expulsion from the SP, which reportedly stemmed from her decision to vote for the BJP’s Rajya Sabha candidate.
She argued that she was being unfairly targeted, pointing out that even Akhilesh Yadav and his wife had voted for BJP candidates during an election at the Constitution Club in Delhi.
“If Akhilesh Yadav and his family can vote for the BJP, why should I be punished for doing the same?” she questioned in her letter.
A Defiant Stand
Ending her letter on a determined note, Pooja Pal wrote that she has full faith in the people of Uttar Pradesh and in her community’s support. She vowed to continue her political journey, asserting that she will contest elections again and emerge victorious.
“I have no fear. I have the blessings of the public, and I will keep fighting for justice,” she declared.
