Police officials confirmed on Wednesday that a case has been filed against prominent Telugu film star Mohan Babu for allegedly attacking a media professional.
The media professional’s complaint detailed that during his visit to Mohan Babu’s residence in Jalpally on December 10 to report on the ongoing “conflict” between the actor and his youngest son Manoj, the veteran actor approached him and other reporters hostilely. He reportedly seized the microphone, employed “offensive and vulgar language,” and struck him with the device, resulting in a wound to his head.
Following the media professional’s complaint, who is 35 years old, authorities registered a case under Section 118 (1) (deliberately inflicting injury using hazardous weapons or materials) of the BNS at Pahadishareef police station, according to an officer.
Tension escalated at Mohan Babu’s home Tuesday evening when his son Manoj, also an actor, tried to gain access to the property but was blocked. During this incident, the media professional covering the situation was reportedly assaulted. Television footage captured Mohan Babu attempting to strike the reporter with a microphone.
Media representatives staged a protest on Wednesday, denouncing the “assault” and requesting an apology from Mohan Babu. Subsequently, the actor was hospitalized after reporting health issues.
In a connected incident, authorities issued notices under Section 126 BNSS to Mohan Babu and his two sons, Vishnu and Manoj, requiring them to present themselves before the Rachakonda Police Commissioner on December 11 regarding a “potential peace disturbance.”
Family tensions surfaced publicly on December 9 when Mohan Babu filed a police report, claiming Manoj and his spouse had “planned” to forcefully take over his Jalpally property through threats and coercion. However, Manoj maintained Wednesday that his struggle wasn’t about “property division” but concerned “dignity and protecting his family.” He has already requested police protection for his household.
Speaking to the media, Vishnu expressed optimism about resolving family matters peacefully. Previously, police had charged Manoj and others based on Mohan Babu’s statement. Mohan Babu had also sought police protection to ensure his security and unrestricted access to his residence.
Furthermore, authorities registered another case following Manoj’s complaint about 10 unknown persons entering the property on December 8. Manoj stated he sustained injuries during an altercation while attempting to apprehend these individuals.
