Three new criminal laws oppressive in nature, says Former Chief Justice Allahabad High Court Govind Mathur:
Former Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court Justice Govind Mathur’s statement that three latest criminal laws were nothing but legislative fraud, has sent ripples in legislative and intellectual circles.
Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organised by PUCL, Nagrik Samaj a social organization and Adhivakta Sangh, the former chief justice said the three laws were scripted during corona period cleverly in a well planned manner with the help of police officers with hardly any say of legislators. These laws were even more cruel than British laws.
Laws on video conferencing during hearing, Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), increased duration of police remand, cruelty in isolation, implementing law on treason with different name and doing away with the accountability of public servants claus were all oppressive in nature and detrimental to society.
People will loose faith in justice if such laws continue to exist, he said.
