The death of three UPSC students due to drowning in the basement of Rau’s IAS coaching center in Old Rajendra Nagar in Delhi has taken a serious turn.

The Delhi High Court has directed the CBI to investigate while casting aspersions over how the Delhi police had been moving ahead in this case.

On its part, the Delhi police pleaded to be given a chance but the court rejected it saying, it was necessary to transfer the investigation so that people are left with no doubts. The court has also directed that a committee under the chief secretary be constituted to look into the basic structure consisting of various facilities in Delhi. The court also said that vice president Delhi delopment authority and Commissioner MCD be included as members in this committee.

A trust named Kutumb has demanded an investigation into this drowning tragedy that took away the lives of three IAS aspirants.

The sequence of events has rocked the entire nation as such an incident in the heart of a big city like Delhi was unthinkable.

As per reports the authorities concerned had not carried out the desilting of drains in the area as a result there was an accumulation of a massive volume of water that found its way into the basement of Rau’s IAS coaching institute.

The basement in buildings can only be used for parking but defying the laid down building rules the coaching had started a library in the basement.

There were around thirty students in the library when rainwater started gushing into the basement. Most students managed to wade through the fast accumulating water but two girls and a boy could not make it to safety and were drowned to death.

This lead to a widespread uproar in Delhi and elsewhere in the country.

FIRs were lodged and following pressure Delhi police started investigating the incident.

But instead of pinpointing and fixing responsibility police started making arrests of by standards and even nabbed a driver for wading his vehicle in high speed in the rainwater near the gate of the coaching.
