The treasure trove of Jannath Puri temple in Odhisa was reopened after a gap of 46 years in the presence of a team on Sunday.
The momentous occasion was long awaited by lakhs of devotees.
Last, the treasury was opened in 1978.
It was suspected that there could be snakes inside this secured room which contains precious ornaments of the Lord and deities in this famous temple.
As a result a medical team and snake experts were present at the spot.
The temple has numerous mysteries surrounding it.
Surprisingly, the flag atop the temple flies in the opposite direction of the wind.
Even birds do not hover over this temples top. No body has ever witnessed a bird in this area not even an aeroplane.
Every day a priest scrambles the walls of the temple with a height equivalent to that of a 45 storey building, to change the flag atop the temple dome. This ritual dates far back to the day the temple was built. The practice is done with bare hands without any protective gear.
The deities are buried from every 14 to 18 years, one above another, replaced by new ones. These deities are made up of neem wood and are believe to be disintegrated on their own.
Every year the Jagannath yatra is carried out with so much of religious fervour, that makes one wonder about the depth of our history and culture.
