Medha Patkar famous social activist has been awarded five month Jail term in a defamation case and a fine of Rs 10 lakh.
A Delhi court has sentenced her to five month imprisonment in a 24 year old defamation case.
Patkar had filed suit against VK Saxena who is now Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for publishing advertisements against her and Narmada Bachao Andolan.
VK Saxena was then heading the NGO National Council for Civil liberties.
On his part Saxena had filed two cases against Medha Patkar for making derogatory remarks against him on a TV Channel .
While pronouncing the judgment the court said, her statements were not only derogatory but also invited negative perceptions.
However, the court was also soft on her because of the age factor.
Medha Patkar now 69 is also reportedly not in good health.
