Noble Peace Prize Laureate (2006) Muhammad Yunus was sworn in as the chief adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government on Thursday after the ouster of Sheikh Hasia who fled to India following mass killings and protests against her policies. Yunus 84 was administered the oath of office by President Mohammas Shahabuddin at the Bang Bhawan built in The President’s house.
On his part, Yunus has appealed to the people of Bangladesh to return to peace and restore peace as it was essential for the progress of the country. According to reports Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud, the two student leaders who led the protests will join the interim government.
PM Narendra Modi has sent him best wishes on the assumption of his new responsibilities. “We hope for an early return to normalcy, ensuring the safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities. India remains committed to working with Bangladesh to fulfill the shared aspirations of both our peoples for peace, security and development.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeed Wazed has blamed Pakistan’s ISI for being a party in creating the turmoil in Bangladesh. He has urged India to build up International pressure for restoration of democracy in his country, says PTI
