In a significant address from Mohbhattha village in the Bilaspur district, Chhattisgarh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that a new era of peace and development was replacing the long-standing Maoist insurgency in the state. His speech emphasized that infrastructure development, rail connectivity, power generation, and social welfare projects were now taking precedence over violence and unrest.

During his visit, the Prime Minister launched a series of large-scale development projects aimed at transforming Chhattisgarh’s transportation, energy, housing, and education sectors. He also took the opportunity to criticize the Congress party, accusing it of perpetuating Naxalism (Maoism) through its flawed policies in the past.

“This new era of peace in Naxal-affected areas is a result of the BJP government’s commitment to development and welfare,” Modi said, highlighting the government’s efforts to win the trust of the people by delivering on promises.

This was PM Modi’s first visit to Chhattisgarh after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, further signaling the BJP’s focus on strengthening its political influence in the state.

One of the most significant developments announced during Modi’s visit was the expansion and modernization of Chhattisgarh’s railway network.

  • The Prime Minister flagged off the Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train service in the Abhanpur-Raipur section via Mandir Hasaud, improving rail connectivity within the state.
  • He laid the foundation stone for seven new railway projects covering 108 kilometers while also inaugurating three completed railway projects spanning 111 kilometers. The combined cost of these projects is estimated at ₹2,690 crore.
  • Additionally, Modi announced the 100% electrification of Chhattisgarh’s railway network, ensuring a more efficient, eco-friendly, and cost-effective transportation system.

Recognizing Chhattisgarh’s role as a major power-producing state, the Prime Minister unveiled key power generation and transmission projects:

  • NTPC’s Sipat Super Thermal Power Project Stage-III (1×800 MW) in Bilaspur was initiated with an investment of over ₹9,790 crore.
  • The first-ever Super Critical Thermal Power Project (2X660MW) by Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) was commissioned at a cost of ₹15,800 crore, further strengthening the state’s electricity supply.
  • He dedicated to the nation three power transmission projects under the Western Region Expansion Scheme (WRES) of POWER GRID, worth more than ₹560 crore.

Expansion of Natural Gas Infrastructure

  • Modi laid the foundation stone for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd’s (BPCL) City Gas Distribution (CGD) project for four districts: Korea, Surajpur, Balrampur, and Surguja.
  • The ₹1,285 crore project includes the installation of a 200 km high-pressure gas pipeline and an 800 km Medium-Density Polyethylene (MDPE) pipeline, along with multiple CNG dispensing stations to promote clean energy adoption.
  • He also inaugurated the Visakh-Raipur Pipeline (VRPL) project by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), a 540-km mmultiproductpipeline capable of transporting over 3 million metric tonnes of fuel annually. This project is valued at ₹2,210 crore.

To enhance road infrastructure and facilitate easier movement of goods and people across Chhattisgarh, Modi launched several national highway projects:

  • Upgradation of the Jhalmala to Sherpar section of NH-930 (37 km).
  • The expansion of the Ambikapur-Pathalgaon section of NH-43 (75 km) into a two-lane road with paved shoulders.
  • The foundation stone was laid for the upgrade of the Kondagaon-Narayanpur section of NH-130D (47.5 km) into a two-lane highway.

These road projects, worth ₹1,270 crore, aim to enhance connectivity in tribal and industrial regions of the state, fostering economic growth and trade opportunities.

PM Modi also unveiled two major education initiatives to improve learning facilities across the state:

  • 130 PM SHRI Schools launched across 29 districts to provide modern educational infrastructure, including smart classrooms, laboratories, and well-equipped libraries.
  • Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) in Raipur was inaugurated, enabling online monitoring and data analysis of government education schemes to enhance the quality of education.

These initiatives align with the government’s broader vision of providing world-class education to students, especially in rural and tribal areas.

As part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), the Prime Minister:

  • Handed over replica keys of houses to three beneficiaries, symbolizing the distribution of lakhs of homes to families in need.
  • Conducted a Griha Pravesh ceremony for 3 lakh beneficiaries, marking a significant step in the government’s commitment to providing housing for all.

These initiatives highlight the BJP government’s focus on improving the living conditions of underprivileged families through affordable housing solutions.

While addressing the crowd, PM Modi made strong remarks against the Congress party, holding them responsible for the rise of Maoism in Chhattisgarh.

  • He accused Congress of deliberately allowing Naxalism to spread due to its poor governance and lack of development policies.
  • Modi contrasted this with the BJP government’s proactive approach, stating that economic progress, infrastructure growth, and welfare initiatives were the best ways to eliminate Maoist influence.
  • His speech resonated with local sentiments, as people in the region have long suffered due to Naxalite violence and disruptions.

This visit comes at a crucial time when the BJP is consolidating its position in Chhattisgarh following its success in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. With state elections on the horizon, Modi’s announcements signal the party’s commitment to development-driven governance and winning public trust through tangible progress.

PM Modi’s visit to Chhattisgarh underscored a historic shift in the state’s trajectory—from Maoist insurgency to economic development. Through massive investments in railways, roads, power, education, and housing, the government is accelerating the transformation of Naxal-affected areas into hubs of growth and prosperity.

As Chhattisgarh moves toward greater peace and modernization, the projects inaugurated by the Prime Minister are expected to boost employment opportunities, improve connectivity, and raise the standard of living for millions of residents.

With political stakes high and development at the forefront, PM Modi’s speech and announcements will likely shape the region’s future and play a pivotal role in upcoming electoral battles.
