The daily rail service between Riyasi and Sangaldan in the Kashmir valley has been planned to be flagged off on August 15.
As part of the Kashmir link project, the rail service will start from Riyasi in Jammu to Baramulla in Kashmir.
The Chenab railway bridge is 359 meters (1178 ft) above the Chenab River and is 35 meters higher than the Eiffel Tower in France.
A trial run of a train chugging at a speed of 40 km per hour has already been done.
The total length of the bridge is 1,315 meters (4,315 feet) The bridge is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project, which aims to connect the Kashmir Valley to the rest of the Indian rail network. Construction of the Chenab Bridge began in 2002 and is expected to be completed by 2024. The bridge features an arch-based design and is being built using high-strength steel. It can withstand winds of up to 260 km/h (162 mph) and earthquakes of up to magnitude 8 on the Richter scale. Chenab Bridge will surpass the Viaduc de Millau in France as the world’s highest rail bridge.
