Close on the heels of the killing of a local journalist Ashutosh Srivastava who also reportedly worked for the BJP at Jaunpur, assailants shot at and injured another local journalist Basant Singh at Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh. The victim is a teacher but also worked as reporter for a hindi daily.
He was rushed to the medical College in the city.
On the other hand the man involved in the killing of Ashutosh identified as Zamiruddin Qureshi has been nabbed by police from Bhiwandi in Mumbai. He will be brought to Jaunpur on transit remand.
It may be mentioned the Press Club of India the other day has written to the Chief Election Commissioner expressing concern over increasing number of assault on mediapersons in the country.
PTI office bearers have urged the CEC that perpetrators of the crime be brought to justice.
