The Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) has proposed to set up a refinery in Prayagraj at a cost of around Rs one lakh crore.

The refinery and petro chemical complex will have the capacity of producing twelve million metric ton product.
ONGC is going to set up this plant with the partnership of BPCL and a foreign investor.
BPCL has enough land for setting up this refinery in Naini and Bara here.
Three decades ago two thousand acres of land had been acquired  in Bara and Lohgara  in Allahabad but the land could not be used for this purpose for various reasons.
However, the present government appears determined to utilise the land by helping in setting up the long pending refinery .
This mega project is expected to bring about great economic benefits for thousands of people as they would get employment opportunities.
The former Petroleum minister Janeshwar Misra had announced about the setting up of the refinery in 1996.
The UP Dy CM  Keshav Prasad Maurya after the the formation of BJP government in UP in 2017 had raised thebling pending refinery issue here in Allahabad.
The Congress MP from Allahabad parliamentary constituency Ujjwal Raman Singh after winning the seat recently met petroleum minister Hardeep Singh Puri and handed him a letter for setting up of the refinery here in the district.
However, now the proposal for setting up the refinery has come from ONGC.
It is being expected that ONGC will soon sign MoU with the state of UP and begin working on this ambitious project that is expected  to boost the economy of this place.
