Ten construction labourers die in road mishap in Mirzapur

Ten persons were killed on the spot and three sustained serious injuries after a truck rammed into a tractor trolley from behind.

The tragedy took place late Thursday night under Kachwa police station in Mirzapur district on Allahabad Varanasi route.

The injured were admitted to the BHU trauma center.

It is suspected that the truck driver fell asleep and had no control over the situation when the truck hit the tractor-trolley.

People of the area gathered at the accident site and sat on the road in protest against the death of so many persons. Police, however, managed to soothe frayed tempers.

All the dead were laborers. They were returning to Varanasi after working at a construction site at Bhadohi.

The state and central government have announced ex-gratia payments of Rs 50,000 to the family members of the deceased.
