We Want To Make Children Doctors, Engineers And Scientists Not “Mullas or Maulvis”… Says UP CM Yogi Adityanath
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has strongly criticized the Samajwadi Party and the Congress, accusing them of engaging in appeasement politics. He emphasized that his government is dedicated to providing quality education to children, ensuring that they have the opportunity to become doctors, engineers, and scientists, rather than being confined to religious education alone.
Speaking in the Legislative Council on Tuesday, Adityanath asserted that his government is focused on imparting modern education to all children, irrespective of their background or community. He reiterated that the “double-engine government”—referring to the governance under both the central and state BJP administrations—is committed to ensuring that education is inclusive and progressive. He made it clear that Uttar Pradesh would not tolerate any form of extremism or regressive educational practices, stating, “Kathmullapan ki sanskriti nahi chalegi” (the culture of religious extremism will not be tolerated).
During his address, Adityanath also invoked the vision of late former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who strongly advocated for modern education as a catalyst for social and economic progress. The Chief Minister said that his government is determined to implement educational reforms that align with Kalam’s vision of a technologically advanced and enlightened India.
Targeting the Samajwadi Party for its alleged “narrow mindset,” Adityanath accused the previous governments of limiting minority children to traditional madrasas and restricting their career prospects. He emphasized that his government aims to break this cycle by offering students broader educational and career opportunities. “We do not want to confine minority children only to traditional madrasas and turn them into mullahs and maulvis. Instead, we want to create pathways for them to become doctors, engineers, scientists, and writers,” he stated.
Adityanath further elaborated on the efforts of his administration to modernize the education sector, highlighting that schools across the state are being upgraded with the combined financial support of both the central and state governments. The government has also launched several initiatives to provide free education to children from economically weaker sections, ensuring that no child is left behind due to financial constraints.
“Our goal is to equip every child with quality education so that they can contribute meaningfully to society. Every child is God’s greatest creation, and we must provide them with the best education possible, without any discrimination,” Adityanath asserted. He acknowledged that while religious education has its place, children aspiring to build successful careers in diverse fields such as literature, mathematics, science, and engineering must embrace modern education to compete in today’s world.
The Chief Minister also took the opportunity to highlight the success of the ‘Abhyudaya Yojana,’ an initiative launched by the state government to offer free coaching to underprivileged students preparing for competitive examinations. He noted that the scheme has been instrumental in helping countless students secure admissions into prestigious institutions and government jobs.
Shifting the focus to the broader socio-economic development of the state, Adityanath accused the opposition parties of ignoring the plight of marginalized and tribal communities for decades. He stated that under previous administrations, tribal groups such as the Tharu, Musahar, and Gond communities were deprived of fundamental rights, including land ownership documents, ration cards, and proper housing. He credited the “double-engine government” with bringing these neglected communities into the mainstream by ensuring they receive essential services and economic support.
Adityanath also underscored the progress made in poverty alleviation under his leadership. He revealed that in the past seven-and-a-half years, six crore people in Uttar Pradesh have been lifted above the poverty line. Nationwide, 25 crore people have benefitted from the government’s efforts to reduce poverty. He set an ambitious target for the next three years, announcing plans to elevate an additional 13.5 lakh families above the poverty line.
To achieve this, the government has conducted a state-wide survey to identify families in need. The administration is working towards ensuring that each identified family has an annual income of at least Rs 1.25 lakh by providing them with basic amenities and creating economic opportunities.
Adityanath also took a dig at the Samajwadi Party’s ‘PDA’ (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpasankhyak – Backward, Dalit, Minority) model, dismissing it as mere political propaganda. He argued that the opposition has historically ignored serious social and health issues, while his government has actively worked towards solving them.
Highlighting his government’s proactive approach to public health, he pointed out that Uttar Pradesh previously faced severe outbreaks of encephalitis, which claimed thousands of lives. He criticized past governments for failing to address the crisis effectively. In contrast, Adityanath stated that his administration tackled encephalitis as a mission by launching extensive vaccination drives, improving healthcare infrastructure, and promoting better sanitation practices. As a result, the disease has been nearly eradicated in the state, though the opposition refuses to acknowledge this achievement, he alleged.
The Chief Minister continued his criticism of the Samajwadi Party and Congress, accusing them of prioritizing appeasement politics over developmental policies. He asserted that the BJP-led government is focused on strengthening infrastructure and governance to ensure Uttar Pradesh remains on a steady path of progress. “The double-engine government has fortified the state’s infrastructure, improved governance, and ensured that development reaches every corner of Uttar Pradesh. Unlike previous administrations that indulged in vote-bank politics, we are working tirelessly to create a prosperous future for all citizens,” he concluded.
With his strong remarks and vision for an educated and developed Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive growth, educational reforms, and the upliftment of marginalized communities. His statements reinforced the BJP’s stance on prioritizing modernization and development while rejecting policies rooted in religious or political appeasement.
