13 Arrested After Violence Erupts Following Death of ‘Farsa Baba’ in Fog-Related Road Accident in Mathura

Authorities in Mathura have detained 13 individuals accused of inciting unrest and circulating misleading claims after the death of Chandrashekhar Baba, popularly known as Farsa Baba, who was killed in a road accident in the Kosi region on Saturday.

Among those taken into custody are Daksh Chaudhary along with several associates reportedly linked to the Ghaziabad-based Hindu Raksha Dal.

The truck driver involved in the incident, who sustained serious injuries when his vehicle struck Baba amid extremely poor visibility caused by thick fog in the early hours of Saturday, later succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital.

Officials stated that the truck was transporting electrical wires and had originated from the Alwar district in Rajasthan.

According to Mathura Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar, a formal case has been registered against individuals who allegedly obstructed traffic on the national highway in the Chhata area on Saturday morning.

Protesters reportedly engaged in stone-throwing, resulting in injuries to several police personnel and damage to official vehicles deployed at the site.

The SSP confirmed that 13 suspects, including Daksh Chaudhary, have been apprehended on allegations of spreading false information, disrupting law enforcement operations, and participating in violent activities.

Investigators are examining CCTV recordings and other evidence to identify additional individuals believed to have played a role in the disturbance.

Preliminary findings indicate that many of those involved in the agitation had travelled from locations outside the Mathura district.

To ensure stability and prevent further escalation, the administration has divided the sensitive area into multiple sectors, each placed under the supervision of designated police officers and executive magistrates.

Authorities have urged citizens to refrain from sharing unverified or inflammatory material on social media platforms, warning that strict legal action will be taken against those attempting to disturb public peace.

Mathura District Magistrate C. P. Singh also appealed to the followers of the deceased to maintain calm and cooperate with the authorities.

He assured that the cow shelter managed by Baba in the Barsana region will continue to function under the oversight of the district administration to ensure uninterrupted care of the animals.

Singh noted that Baba had earned recognition locally as a dedicated cow protector and caretaker and had been associated with the operation of the shelter for several years.

Providing details of the incident, the district magistrate explained that Baba and his associates had stopped a container truck bearing a Nagaland registration number after suspecting that it was being used for illegal cattle transportation.

While Baba was engaged in a heated discussion with the truck’s driver and occupants, another truck registered in Rajasthan approached the location and struck him due to extremely low visibility caused by dense fog between approximately 3 and 4 a.m., resulting in his fatal injuries.

Following the accident, rumours began circulating that the collision was deliberately caused by a vehicle linked to alleged cattle smugglers.

This triggered anger among Baba’s supporters, many of whom gathered from neighbouring districts and states.

The crowd reportedly resorted to stone-pelting and aggressive behaviour, targeting police personnel deployed to manage the situation.

The district magistrate further stated that some supporters of the deceased had demanded the issuance of firearm licences to individuals involved in cow protection activities, citing security concerns due to the district’s proximity to the borders of Rajasthan and Haryana.

He clarified that any applications for arms licences would be reviewed strictly in accordance with legal provisions and only granted after assessing genuine threat perceptions.

Officials also highlighted that nearly 100 cow shelters are currently functioning in the district under government and private management.

The administration reiterated its commitment to ensuring the welfare and protection of cattle, emphasising that cruelty towards cows or their offspring will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
