14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi blasts 32-ball hundred in Doha, continues dream run with record-breaking power-hitting

Fourteen-year-old cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi produced another unbelievable performance, smashing a 32-ball century for India A against the UAE in Doha during the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament on Friday.

Already known for doing the impossible on a cricket field, the teenager hammered 144 runs off just 42 balls before getting out in the 13th over of the T20 match.

His innings was filled with 15 massive sixes and 11 fours, meaning 134 of his 144 runs came in boundaries — an astonishing 93%, a feat only three players have ever bettered in T20 cricket.

Vaibhav also became the only player in the world to hit two T20 hundreds in 35 balls or fewer. Earlier this year, he had smashed a 35-ball century in the IPL for the Rajasthan Royals against the Gujarat Titans.

In one over during this match, he smashed four sixes, then hit a four and looked upset because it wasn’t another six — a glimpse of how high his expectations are. India A, led by Jitesh Sharma, posted a huge 297/5 in 20 overs, with the skipper playing a brilliant 83 off 32 balls*.

Former India domestic star Priyank Panchal wrote on X that Vaibhav might be pushed into the Indian senior team very soon. He added that while rushing him could be risky, performances like these are impossible to ignore.

Vaibhav’s rise in 2024 has been remarkable. The young batter from Bihar made his IPL debut, hit the second-fastest IPL century, became the youngest IPL centurion, impressed on tours of Australia and England, and earned a quick promotion to India A.

He also holds the record for the fastest Youth ODI hundred (off 52 balls) and recently broke the record for most sixes in Youth ODI cricket, surpassing Unmukt Chand.

What makes Vaibhav Suryavanshi different?

Former India coach and Rajasthan Royals mentor Rahul Dravid recently explained why Vaibhav is special.

Speaking on the Breakfast with Champions show, Dravid said that while Vaibhav has plenty of skill, the real magic lies in his fearless mindset.

He recalled how Vaibhav hit his very first ball in the IPL—bowled by international pacer Shardul Thakur—for a six. Dravid said that such courage cannot be taught.

“You can guide such players, give them the freedom, but you can’t restrict them. Their mindset is their gift,” he said.
