A Divine Journey on Foot: State Plans Sacred Yamuna Nature Walk Between Vrindavan and Gokul
In a spiritually inspired move, the Uttar Pradesh government is set to develop a 17-kilometre nature walk pathway along the sacred banks of the Yamuna River, connecting the holy towns of Vrindavan and Gokul—two of the most revered places in the life of Lord Krishna.
Estimated at a cost of ₹50 crore, the initiative will be executed by the Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad in collaboration with the State Forest and Wildlife Department, and seeks to blend religious devotion with natural serenity.
The two-metre wide paved path will trace the same mystical route that devotees believe Lord Krishna and his companions once walked.
According to the vision laid out in a recent review chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the walkway is designed to immerse pilgrims in the spiritual and natural heritage of Braj Bhoomi.
The route, rich in divine lore and associated with countless Krishna Leelas, will offer an experiential pilgrimage that mirrors the calm, purity, and grace of the Yamuna.
The pathway will be adorned with indigenous plants and sacred flora, chosen not only for their environmental benefits but also for their religious significance.
Each step along the trail will offer devotees a chance to reconnect with the footsteps of Shri Krishna, while also appreciating the beauty of the natural world He revered.
Facilities such as fencing, spiritual lighting, and toilets will be provided to ensure safety, hygiene, and accessibility for pilgrims of all ages. The focus, officials say, is on creating an atmosphere where faith and tranquility walk hand in hand.
This sacred corridor forms a key component of the broader Mathura Vision 2030, a transformative development blueprint for the region comprising 195 projects worth ₹30,080 crore, of which 23 projects totaling ₹2,300 crore have already been sanctioned.
Officials said the Vrindavan-Gokul Nature Walk Pathway is not just a physical route but a devotional experience, allowing pilgrims to tread the blessed terrain of Braj Dham as they reflect, chant, and absorb the peace of the riverbank.
As per the government’s statement, the pathway aims to create a divine environment for spiritual seekers, where “the breeze carries the name of Krishna, the trees whisper stories of Radha, and every step becomes an act of devotion.”
This spiritual and ecological initiative is poised to become a landmark in religious tourism, reaffirming Braj as not only a land of legends but also a sanctuary of peace, prayer, and nature.
