A Historic First in Prayagraj — Women Celebrate Holi Freely as Loknath Milan Sangh Hosts Exclusive Festival for Females

Prayagraj: In a landmark cultural moment for the city, women and girls celebrated Holi with great enthusiasm at an event organised exclusively for them by Shri Loknath Milan Sangh, marking the first time in local history that the vibrant festival of colours was arranged in a women-only environment designed for safety and freedom of expression.

For three consecutive days, Holi celebrations created a festive atmosphere in the Loknath area.

While the first two days saw large gatherings of men playing Holi at the Loknath intersection, the third day — Friday — was specially reserved for women and girls.

The venue for the occasion was the Loknath Gymnasium campus, where women from across the locality came together to celebrate the festival with unrestrained joy.

Women Lead the Holi Celebrations

Traditionally, in Prayagraj, the third day of Holi festivities was associated mainly with celebrations in Thatheri Bazaar, but this year the organisers introduced a new and inclusive tradition.

For the first time, a Holi event dedicated entirely to women and girls was organised, creating a lively yet secure environment where participants could enjoy the festival without hesitation.

The entire gymnasium campus transformed into a vibrant sea of colours as women enthusiastically played with abir, gulal, and natural herbal colours.

Entry for men was strictly prohibited, ensuring that the participants could celebrate freely and comfortably.

Everywhere in the venue, smiling faces covered in colours reflected excitement, happiness, and the festive spirit.

The event was organised under the guidance of former president Ravindra Pandey and current president Nikhil Pandey of Shri Loknath Milan Sangh.

Holi celebrations were scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., giving women a dedicated time slot to enjoy the festival.

Although the organisers arranged natural colours and gulal for the event, many women and girls also arrived carrying their own packets of colour, eager to join in the revelry.

During the two-hour celebration, popular songs associated with Holi filled the air, and women danced energetically to one festive track after another.

The atmosphere was filled with laughter, music, and playful splashes of colour and water.

As the celebration continued, the entire campus appeared like a colourful spectacle, with vibrant clouds of gulal rising in the air and participants enjoying every moment.

Videos of the women celebrating Holi were widely shared across social media, quickly gaining attention and appreciation.

Participants greeted one another warmly, exchanged Holi wishes with embraces, and expressed their gratitude to the organisers for creating such a memorable and meaningful event.

Many described the celebration as a refreshing initiative that allowed women to participate in the festival with greater freedom and enthusiasm.

Officials Celebrate Holi at Sangam Auditorium

Even though normal administrative work resumed after Holi, the festive spirit continued to linger in the city.

On Friday, a Holi gathering was also held at the Sangam Auditorium during the public grievance hearing conducted by District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma.

After the hearing concluded, government officials and staff gathered together for a brief Holi celebration. They exchanged greetings and applied abir and gulal to one another, extending wishes for the festival of colours.

Among those present were ADM Nazul Sanjay Pandey, ADM Administration Pooja Mishra, ADM City Satyam Mishra, ADM Finance and Revenue Vineeta Singh, Nazir Ajay Shankar Srivastava, along with several other officials and staff members,s including Mahendra Pandey and Manish Sahu.

The dual celebrations — one among government officials and the other among women at Loknath — reflected how the spirit of Holi continued to unite people across the city, even after the main festival days had passed.

For many residents, the women-only Holi celebration at Loknath marked a historic and empowering beginning, setting a new precedent for inclusive festivities in Prayagraj.
