Adani Defence Delivers First Batch of Indigenous ‘Prahar’ Light Machine Guns to Indian Army Under Make in India Initiative
Gwalior: Strengthening the combat capability of the Indian Army, Adani Defence and Aerospace on Saturday handed over the first batch of indigenously manufactured Prahar Light Machine Guns (LMGs).
The weapons have been developed under the Government of India’s Make in India initiative, aimed at enhancing self-reliance in the defence sector.
The 7.62 mm calibre LMGs have been produced at Adani Defence’s Small Arms Complex located on the outskirts of Gwalior.
A formal ceremony was held at the manufacturing facility to mark the handover, attended by senior officials, including A. Ambarasu, Director General (Acquisition), Ministry of Defence, and Ashish Rajvanshi, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Defence and Aerospace, along with other company representatives.
During the ceremony, A. Ambarasu flagged off the trucks carrying the first batch of the machine guns for the Indian Army.
Speaking to journalists, Rajvanshi said that the project marks the culmination of nearly six years of work, beginning from the bidding stage to final delivery. He added that the company has completed the initial delivery 11 months ahead of the original schedule.
Rajvanshi further stated that while the initial timeline for fulfilling the contract was more than seven years, the company is confident of completing the entire order within the next three years.
The first batch of 200 Prahar Light Machine Guns has been manufactured domestically by Adani Defence and Aerospace.
The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of strengthening India’s armed forces while reducing dependence on imports in key manufacturing sectors, particularly defence production.
The indigenous development of advanced small arms reflects India’s growing focus on technological capability, strategic autonomy, and long-term national security preparedness.
The PM Narendra Modi, since the past decade, has been making efforts to ensure that India starts manufacturing all its domestic requirements in all the areas, while branding them Make In India.
The PM had also laid emphasis that in a fast-paced world where space and technology, IT and defence manufacturing of latest arms and ammunition hold vital importance, India needs to take giant strides.
The efforts have started being seen on the ground, and the country of late has taken giant strides in all the vital areas, including Defence, IT and Space technology.
India is constantly engaged in strengthening and giving a new shape to space and technology, building infrastructures, roads, dams, airports, defence equipment, missile innovation, etc.
The surprising results of Brahmos missiles that brought Pakistan to its knees recently during OP Sindoorhaves left the world wondering about the tremendous progress India has made in the last few years.
AS a result, recently Lucknow became the proud owner of a missile manufacturing unit and several countries placed purchase orders for the missiles, which are being manufactured round the clock.
With French help, elp India is now manufacturing the much sought-after Rafale fighters, etc., and according to sources, after the initial few years, France will deliver the final technology to India. From then on, India will start manufacturing its own Rafael.

As of now, India is already manufacturing its Make In India fighter Aircraft at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited at Kanpur. One of its fighter planes, Tejas, had made its entry in the Indian fleet.
