Administration Gears Up for Maghi Purnima Snan at Magh Mela, Expects Up to 70 Million Devotees
The fifth major bathing festival of the Magh Mela, Maghi Purnima, will be observed on Sunday. The administration has intensified preparations to ensure smooth arrangements.
This time, a slight change in strategy has been introduced compared to previous bathing festivals, as Kalpvasis will be exiting the fair area after the ritual bath.
Special attention is being given to traffic management to prevent congestion, particularly on return routes.
Vehicles of relatives coming to pick up the Kalpvasis will be allowed to reach their camps before traffic restrictions are enforced.
Additionally, they will begin departing through designated routes early in the morning. Mela Officer Rishiraj has instructed officials to ensure that while many people will be leaving the fair area, a large number of devotees will also be entering on the same day.
Therefore, entry and exit routes must be kept completely separate to avoid inconvenience.
All 12 bathing ghats are being prepared once again. Authorities have made arrangements for straw mats at the ghats and the repair of damaged changing rooms.
It is estimated that between 50 million and 70 million devotees will take the holy dip on the occasion of Maghi Purnima.
Sector Magistrates to Be Deployed Across All Areas
Each sector magistrate will remain stationed in their respective areas. Two Additional District Magistrate (ADM)-level officers will monitor the Sangam Nose area to ensure smooth crowd movement.
In addition, teams of administrative officers will be deployed at railway stations and bus terminals to maintain coordination and provide real-time updates, enabling swift response to any situation.
2.5 Million Devotees Took Holy Dip on Ekadashi
Prayagraj: On Thursday, the day of Ekadashi, a massive crowd of devotees gathered for the ritual bath. Officials stated that the number of pilgrims was significantly higher than on a normal day.
Along with bathing at the Sangam, devotees also performed charity and worship rituals. The administration claimed that around 2.5 million devotees took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam on Thursday.
Special Focus on Cleanliness
On the occasion of Maghi Purnima, all health and sanitation workers have been given special instructions to remain actively engaged throughout the day.
Duties will be assigned in shifts, and cleaning operations will be carried out at regular intervals. Continuous monitoring will ensure that sanitation standards are maintained.
Holy Dip on Purnima to Coincide with Rare Four-Planetary Alignment
Prayagraj: The Maghi Purnima bathing festival will take place on February 1. A special highlight this year is the formation of a rare Chaturgrahiya Yoga (four-planetary alignment), during which devotees will take the sacred bath.
According to Pt. Diwakar Tripathi Purvanchali, Director of Utthan Jyotish and Spiritual Institute, the Sun will transit through Capricorn along with Mars, Mercury, and Venus on this day, forming the Chaturgrahiya Yoga on Purnima.
The combined influence of these four planets will also create auspicious yogas such as Budhaditya Yoga, Bhomaditya Yoga, and Lakshmi Narayan Yoga, enhancing the spiritual significance of the festival.
He further explained that the Magh Shukla Paksha Purnima will begin at 5:05 am before sunrise on February 1 and will last until 3:46 am the following night.
Braj Mohan Pandey, Principal of Shri Swami Narottamanand Giri Vedic School, added that the planetary alignment on Purnima will also result in the formation of Sudhamrit Yoga.
Bathing during this auspicious period is believed to grant spiritual merit equivalent to that of the Kumbh Mela.
