Aligarh Hospital Shooting: Patient Killed by Armed Assailants, PAC Personnel Among Accused
A shocking incident unfolded in Aligarh when a man receiving medical care was gunned down inside a private hospital premises late Monday night.
The victim, identified as Vedpal, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday while undergoing treatment.
According to police sources, the attack was carried out by two individuals, one of whom is a Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) constable.
The assailants reportedly entered the hospital where Vedpal had been admitted and opened fire on him before fleeing the scene. CCTV footage from the hospital captured the suspects, who were also seen firing shots into the air as they exited.
Investigations revealed that Vedpal had allegedly been persistently harassing a young woman, the sister of the accused PAC personnel.
His actions had earlier caused disruption to her marriage, leading to serious tensions between him and the woman’s family.
In a prior altercation, Vedpal was assaulted by the girl’s relatives, sustaining injuries to his hand, following which he was admitted for treatment.
On the day of the incident, Vedpal had undergone an orthopedic procedure related to injuries he had earlier suffered in Mathura.
Later that night, the attackers allegedly reached the hospital and carried out the fatal shooting.
Following the incident, police registered a case at Quarsi police station against members of the woman’s family.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Neeraj Kumar Jadaun confirmed that the firing occurred around 10 pm and that Vedpal was critically wounded before being shifted to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, where he was placed on life support.
Despite efforts by doctors, he could not be saved.
Police officials stated that Vedpal had known the woman for several years while she lived in Mathura.
Her marriage had been arranged elsewhere and was scheduled earlier this year, but Vedpal allegedly interfered, preventing it from taking place.
The family later arranged her marriage to another person.
Authorities also disclosed that the woman’s family had previously filed complaints against Vedpal, leading to his arrest and 14-day judicial custody in Mathura last month on charges related to disturbing public peace.
The woman’s father, a serving UP Police personnel posted in Baghpat, and her brother, posted at the DIG office in Agra, have been detained for questioning.
The primary accused, PAC constable Bhupendra Chaudhary—who is also related to the woman—and his accomplice are currently on the run, with police teams conducting raids to apprehend them.
Vedpal’s father had earlier approached the police alleging threats from the woman’s family. According to officials, on Monday night, the accused reached the hospital and executed the attack while Vedpal was still recovering from his injuries.
Even after his release from jail, Vedpal reportedly continued to pursue and harass the woman, prompting further complaints through a police helpline in Mathura.
It is alleged that he sent her another message just days before the incident, after which the distressed woman informed her family.
Investigators believe this may have triggered the fatal confrontation.
