Prayagraj: The stage is set for one of the most significant legal fraternity events in Uttar Pradesh as the Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA) prepares to elect its new office-bearers on July 23.

Final preparations have been completed, with authorities taking elaborate measures to ensure the polling process is transparent, secure, and orderly.

According to Radha Kant Ojha, senior advocate and chief returning officer of the HCBA elections, polling will commence at 9:00 a.m. and continue till 5:00 p.m. The voting will take place on the ground floor of the newly constructed chamber building, specifically in the designated parking area.

Strict eligibility norms have been outlined to preserve the integrity of the voting process. Only those advocates who are dressed in formal court attire and carry the latest identity card issued by the HCBA will be allowed to cast their votes.

The election authority has clearly stated that no other form of identification will be accepted, regardless of seniority or membership status.

To oversee the polling and manage election logistics, a team of experienced returning officersMahendra Bahadur Singh, Vashistha Tiwari, and Anil Bhushan—will assist the chief returning officer.

These senior legal professionals will supervise the voting booths and ensure the process proceeds without disruption or malpractice.

This year’s election has seen an impressive voter base of 9,718 registered advocates, with 201 candidates contesting for various coveted positions within the HCBA.

The high number of aspirants and voters is a testament to the importance and competitive nature of the bar elections, which play a critical role in shaping the leadership of one of India’s most prominent legal communities.

Given the scale of the election, the election committee has enforced several restrictions to maintain decorum and avoid public inconvenience.

No election tents, campaign setups, or promotional kiosks will be allowed within a 500-meter radius of the High Court building.

Additionally, the area surrounding the High Court has been declared a “No Parking Zone”, and traffic diversions will be in place to regulate movement and avoid congestion.

To reinforce security and ensure law and order, a strong contingent of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), along with civil police personnel, will be deployed at each polling booth entrance. Their primary responsibility will be to verify identity cards, manage queues, and respond to any disturbances.

A formal notification issued by the returning officers on Tuesday emphasized the need for cooperation from the legal fraternity.

It appealed to all participating lawyers to comply with verification protocols and to interact respectfully with security personnel to maintain the dignity of the election environment.

The Allahabad High Court Bar Association election is a significant democratic exercise, not only in the legal sphere but also in shaping the advocacy culture and leadership of northern India’s largest high court bar.
