Allahabad HC Grants Interim Protection to Jawed Habib and Son in Alleged Multi-Crore Investment Scam
By Rajesh Pandey
The Allahabad High Court has extended interim protection from arrest to well-known celebrity hairstylist Jawed Habib and his son Anosh Habib in a series of cases alleging a multi-crore investment fraud.
The Court has also directed that no coercive action shall be taken against either of them until the police complete their investigation and submit a chargesheet.
A Division Bench comprising Justice Siddhartha Varma and Justice Achal Sachdeva passed the order while hearing a cluster of petitions filed by the Habibs.
These petitions sought to challenge a total of 32 FIRs lodged in Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh, in connection with alleged financial fraud and cheating.
Allegations in the FIRs
According to the FIRs, the father-son duo held a seminar in September 2023, where participants were encouraged to invest between ₹2 lakh and ₹20 lakh in a company known as Follicle Global Company (FLC).
Investors were reportedly assured of lucrative returns. However, as per complaints, investors neither received promised profits nor a refund, even after a period of two years.
Petitioners’ Stand
The Habibs vehemently denied wrongdoing. Their counsels argued before the Court that the accusations were exaggerated and that the matter required a fair and detailed investigation before any coercive steps could be justified.
They also sought interim protection because the slew of FIRs appeared to be part of a vindictive and repetitive prosecution strategy.
Court’s Observations and Order
After perusing the case records and hearing arguments, the Court disposed of the petitions with the direction that:
- Arrest of the petitioners will remain stayed, and
- No coercive action shall be taken against them until the police file a chargesheet.
This interim protection provides legal breathing room to the Habibs while the investigation progresses
