Allahabad High Court Puts Single Judge’s CLAT-UG 2026 Merit List Revision Order on Hold
By Rajesh Pandey
The Allahabad High Court on Friday stayed a February 3 ruling that had directed the Consortium of National Law Universities to revise the entire merit list for CLAT-UG 2026 ahead of future counselling rounds.
The interim relief was granted by a division bench comprising Justices Saumitra Dayal Singh and Indrajeet Shukla while hearing a special appeal filed by the Consortium of National Law Universities.
The appeal challenges the earlier decision of a single judge concerning a disputed question in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) undergraduate examination.
Earlier this month, the single judge had observed that a high-powered Oversight Committee acted arbitrarily in overturning the opinion of subject experts on a contentious question.
The court noted that no adequate reasons were provided for disregarding the experts’ views.
In its February 3 order, the single judge had instructed the Consortium to accept both options ‘B’ and ‘D’ as correct answers to Question No. 9 in Booklet-C, along with the corresponding question in other sets of the CLAT-UG 2026 paper.
The court had also directed the body to republish the revised merit list within one month.
With the division bench now staying that directive, the implementation of the revised merit list will remain on hold until further orders.
