Allahabad High Court Seeks Bar Associations’ Input on Making 12 Saturdays Working Days in 2025
In a move aimed at addressing the growing backlog of cases, the Allahabad High Court has proposed converting 12 Saturdays in the year 2025 into regular working days.
The initiative is intended to accelerate the disposal of pending cases by marginally expanding the court’s working calendar.
To ensure a collaborative decision-making process, the Registrar General of the High Court has reached out to the major bar associations, inviting their suggestions and feedback on the proposal.
A formal communication was sent on May 14, 2025, to the High Court Bar Association, the Advocates’ Association (Allahabad), and the Oudh Bar Association.
The letter requests that these associations submit their views at the earliest, so that the matter can be presented before the full court for further deliberation and potential approval.
According to court officials, the proposed working Saturdays would be carefully chosen and designated in advance, ensuring predictability and fairness for all stakeholders.
The court administration believes that introducing a limited number of additional working days could significantly help in reducing the mounting pendency of cases, a concern that continues to challenge the efficiency of the judiciary.
The final decision will hinge on the response and consensus from the legal fraternity, particularly the bar associations, whose cooperation is essential for the effective implementation of this plan.
