The Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) to respond to allegations of non-evaluation and marking discrepancies brought before it by a candidate in the Uttar Pradesh Judicial Service Civil Judge (Junior Division) Examination 2022 (UPPCSJ-2022). It was the plea that due to errors in the evaluation of her general knowledge and law paper-III exams, the petitioner was held back from the final select list by just one mark.
Appearing for the petitioner – Sucheta Rai, her counsel argued that in the absence of the alleged non-evaluation and discrepancies, she would have secured her selection. Despite the results being declared on August 30, 2023, the issue came to light only recently after UPPSC on June 14, 2024 by a public notice invited candidates to review their answer sheets. The petitioner perused her answer sheets in pursuance of the said notice on July 4, 2024, after which she approached the high court.
During the hearing, Justices Saumitra Dayal Singh and Donadi Ramesh, noted the delayed filing of the petition as the results were declared on August 31, 2024.
On the other hand, UPPSC’s counsel pointed out that a public notice issued on June 14, 2024, assured all candidates that grievances would be addressed by August 30, 2024. Given this, the court declined to grant an interim stay on the results but ordered UPPSC to submit a counter-affidavit within six weeks.
In a related case, on 19th July 2024, the High Court also demanded a response from UPPSC regarding a petition by another candidate, Shravan Pandey, who is seeking an FIR and a CBI inquiry into the alleged scam and foul play in the UPPCSJ-2022 Mains exam.
The developments in these cases are being closely monitored, as they may have significant implications for the credibility and fairness of competitive exams in Uttar Pradesh.
