Union Home Minister Amit Shah has issued directives to all security agencies to intensify the fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir with the ultimate goal of achieving “zero infiltration.” We have to see that terrorism is uprooted, he said.
In two consecutive high-level meetings held in New Delhi, Shah reviewed the security situation in the Union Territory. He emphasized that the ongoing efforts under the Narendra Modi government have significantly weakened the “ecosystem of terror” in the region, but stressed the need for continued vigilance and action.
Push for Zero Infiltration
According to an official statement, Shah directed security forces to enhance counter-terrorism operations and maintain a proactive approach to uproot terrorist networks. “Our aim must be the complete eradication of terrorism,” he stated during the meetings.
Highlighting the importance of addressing the financial lifeline of terrorism, Shah instructed officials to take rigorous measures to curb terror funding, particularly through proceeds generated from narcotics trafficking.
Commitment to Uproot Terrorism
Reaffirming the government’s resolve, Shah said, “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, we are committed to eliminating terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir. The focus should be on dismantling every aspect of terrorist infrastructure, from infiltration routes to funding networks.”
High-Level Review Meetings
The meetings, held on Tuesday and Wednesday, brought together senior officials from the Army, police, paramilitary forces, and civil administration. It marked the first instance of the home minister conducting back-to-back, detailed reviews of the security scenario in the Union Territory.
Prominent attendees included Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, and Army Commander General Upendra Dwivedi, among others.
Context of the Meetings
The security discussions took place in the aftermath of a recent terror attack in Kulgam district of south Kashmir. In this incident, ex-serviceman Manzoor Ahmad Wagay lost his life, while his wife and niece sustained injuries. The attack highlighted the persistent threat posed by terrorism in the region, reinforcing the need for a coordinated response.
