A Diwali on the High Seas: PM Modi’s Journey Aboard INS Vikrant and the Spirit of a Fearless Nation

As the sun dipped below the horizon off the shimmering coast of Goa, the vast Arabian Sea glowed with the soft reflections of fireworks — but this was no ordinary Diwali.

This was a festival of light and courage celebrated not in the comfort of palaces or cities, but aboard the mighty INS Vikrant, India’s pride — its first indigenously built aircraft carrier.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stood tall on the deck, the sea breeze rippling through the Indian flag behind him, surrounded by sailors in crisp white uniforms.

It wasn’t just a celebration — it was a reaffirmation of India’s maritime might, a story of atmanirbharta, and the continuation of a decade-old tradition where the Prime Minister shares Diwali with the guardians of the nation.

The Warrior’s Diwali

The day began with a breathtaking scene — Modi performing yoga at dawn on the warship’s deck, with the endless blue horizon stretching beyond.

The rhythmic hum of the sea seemed to echo the disciplined movements of the Navy personnel around him.

Soon after, the calm morning transformed into a thrilling display of air and sea power.

MiG-29K fighter jets roared into the sky, taking off and landing on the short runway of Vikrant in a heart-stopping display of precision.

The Prime Minister watched intently as naval pilots, engineers, and sailors showcased their skills — a seamless ballet of courage, coordination, and technology.

In that moment, the air was charged with pride. “Just a few months ago,” Modi said, addressing the sailors later, “we saw that INS Vikrant — with its very name — gave sleepless nights to Pakistan.

When a ship’s name alone can strike fear in the enemy’s heart, you know what true strength means.

He spoke of Operation Sindoor — a joint military triumph that forced Pakistan into surrender through the sheer might and coordination of India’s Army, Navy, and Air Force.

His words carried both warmth and warning — a salute to India’s defenders, and a reminder to adversaries that peace in Bharat is always backed by power.

Forging a Self-Reliant Force

But the Prime Minister’s message was not only about valor — it was about vision. Speaking of atmanirbharta (self-reliance), Modi reminded the officers that India’s defence transformation had been nothing short of revolutionary.

“In the last decade, our defence production has more than tripled,” he said with conviction. “Since 2014, the Navy alone has received more than forty indigenously built warships and submarines.

Our forces are no longer dependent on imports — they are shaping the future with Indian hands and Indian minds.”

As the waves lapped softly against the carrier’s hull, he spoke of India’s dream — not just to defend itself, but to become one of the world’s top defence exporters.

Our missiles — BrahMos, Akash — have proven their might in Operation Sindoor,” he said, a glint in his eye.

The world wants what Bharat builds. From importing weapons to exporting them — this is our new journey.

A Night of Pride and Patriotism

As evening descended, the flight deck turned into a sea of lights. The cultural programme began — sailors and officers, their families and children, all gathered in celebration.

Patriotic songs echoed across the vast expanse of the ship, including one specially composed to honour Operation Sindoor.

Modi, visibly moved, said later, “When I heard the songs you sang, I felt no poet could capture the emotion of a soldier on the battlefield the way you just did.

The night ended with the traditional Bara Khana — a community dinner where the Prime Minister dined with sailors and their families.

Between laughter, shared sweets, and heartfelt greetings, the festival of light truly became the festival of unity.

For Modi, this was not a one-off gesture. Since 2014, his Diwali evenings have been spent not under chandeliers, but under the stars — from the frozen heights of Siachen to the rugged frontlines of Kargil, from Rajouri to Sir Creek.

Each visit has carried the same message: the true light of Diwali shines brightest in the hearts of India’s protectors.

And this year, aboard the mighty INS Vikrant, that flame of courage burned brighter than ever — carried by the wind, the waves, and the warriors who call the sea their home.
