Chhattisgarh Tragedy: 13-Year-Old Girl Throws Two Cousins Into Well After Being Mocked as ‘Thief’ In a heartbreaking incident

In Chhattisgarh, a 13-year-old girl allegedly killed her two young cousins — a four-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl — by pushing them into a well.

According to police, the girl acted out of anger and humiliation after being repeatedly branded a thief by villagers, including the four-year-old boy who had begun repeating the taunts he heard from others.

The tragic episode unfolded on Sunday in Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai (KCG) district. Both families lived in the same village, and the fathers of the children are brothers.

When the young children went missing on Sunday morning, panic spread through the family and community.

Villagers joined the search, and soon, one child’s body was discovered floating in a well located in a nearby vegetable field. After the well was drained, the second body was recovered.

Suspicion soon turned toward the teenage girl, who was last seen with the victims. Officials said she later confessed to her family and the police, admitting that she pushed both children into the well.

During questioning, she expressed remorse and reportedly said that she lost control after the boy repeatedly called her a thief, echoing villagers who mocked her following allegations that she had earlier stolen some money and a mobile phone.

Police have filed a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder, along with provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

The girl, a Class 8 student living with her parents and brother, has been sent to a juvenile correctional facility.

Authorities noted that the emotional stress of public humiliation and social stigma may have played a role in triggering the violent act.
