Election Commission Directs Voter Redistribution Within Same Polling Centres; 461 Additional Booths Likely in Prayagraj District

PRAYAGRAJ: To strengthen electoral transparency and enhance voter convenience, the Election Commission has instructed officials to reorganize polling booths in Prayagraj under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.

As part of this major restructuring, 461 new polling stations are expected to be added across the district, taking the total count from 4,713 to an estimated 5,174 booths, as per the Commission’s guideline that each booth should cater to a maximum of 1,200 voters.

On Friday, at the Bara Tehsil auditorium, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were distributed voter revision forms and other materials.

The BLOs will visit households to verify voters’ details, collect updated information, and submit one copy of the verification form to the voter and the other to the Election Commission.

Key Instructions & Booth Allocation Rules

The Commission has emphasized that voters from the same polling centre should be adjusted within its multiple booths rather than being shifted to a different centre.

The aim is to ensure minimal disruption and prevent families from being assigned to different polling booths.

Key directives include:

  • Maintain voters of the same family at the same polling location.
  • If a booth has fewer than 500 voters, authorities must physically verify whether it can be merged or shifted logically.
  • New polling site proposals must include high-rise societies, group housing societies, RWAs, colonies, and slum clusters.
  • On-ground survey teams have been directed to strictly follow the revised format given by the Election Commission.
