Haldwani / New Delhi — Security agencies investigating the recent Delhi explosion arrested two individuals from Haldwani’s Banbhoolpura area early Saturday, including a local Imam.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), Delhi Police, and Special Task Force (STF) jointly carried out the operation around 3 AM, detaining 55-year-old Imam Mohammad Asim and his associate, electrician Nazer Kamal, after initial questioning provided alleged connections to the prime accused, Dr. Uma, and other suspects.
According to police sources, Imam Asim’s phone records reportedly established communication with key accused Muzammil Shakeel Ganai and several others linked to the blast.
‘When the mobile number’s location was traced to Haldwani, a coordinated raid was carried out, and both individuals were taken into custody.
They were transported to Delhi for further interrogation. Investigators also questioned the cleric of Nainital Mosque for nearly three hours before releasing him.
Court Extends Custody of Four Accused
In a parallel development in New Delhi, the Patiala House Court extended the NIA custody of three doctors and a cleric arrested earlier in the case.
Those presented before Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna included Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Ganai, Dr. Adeel Rather, Dr. Shaheen, and cleric Irfan Ahmed Wage.
After reviewing the case details, the court ordered an additional ten days of NIA custody for all four.
Attempt to Revive Indian Mujahideen
Sources in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) revealed that there are strong indications of a renewed attempt to reactivate the banned terror outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM). Officials believe Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI I is attempting to establish multiple terrorist sleeper cells within India, adopting newer operational methods.
Investigators suggest the recent Delhi explosion may be part of this emerging pattern.
