Rarely has this happened anytime in the past. A film in repeat-run has yielded more share than it did in the first run! The film in question is Imtiaz Ali’s Laila Majnu, directed by Sajid Ali.
The love story, which had bombed when first released in September 2018, was revived in a big way last week. Believe it or not but the all-India collections totalled almost Rs. 5 crore, which is far more than the Rs. 3 crore netted in its first run.
The foremost reason one can attribute to this unique phenomenon is the newfound popularity of the film’s heroine, Tripti Dimri. Tripti plays the female lead opposite Avinash Tiwary in the love story. Because the film fared poorly in when it was first released in 2018, Tripti went largely unnoticed. However, she became a favourite of the public after her brief role in Animal. She followed it up with an outing in Bad Newz which was released four weeks back. The benefit of her popularity now seems to have enticed the audience to the cinemas screening Laila Majnu.
