Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris appeared in Los Angeles on Monday for an event titled A Day of Unreasonable Conversation, where she candidly expressed frustration over the current political landscape, seemingly taking a swipe at the Trump administration.
During her remarks, Harris declared, “these mother—— ers are crazy,” a comment that drew laughter and applause from the audience, though she did not directly name any individuals or administrations.
Harris explained that much of her exasperation stems from the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election, describing the period as a time when people felt disoriented and anxious.
“There’s so much about this moment that is making people feel like they’ve lost their minds. When, in fact, these mothers are crazy,” she said, emphasizing the chaotic and unprecedented political climate.
She referred to her memoir, 107 Days, which she is promoting on a nationwide book tour, noting that one of her key goals was to ensure her voice is preserved in the historical record of the contentious 2024 election.
One of the other reasons I wrote it is that history is going to write about this. And it was important to me that that be told with my voice being present,”
Harris said. “We are living history right now. And you all as storytellers are living this. You’re not passive observers. You know that. You’re living it.”
Harris encouraged attendees — many of whom were writers, artists, and cultural creators — to channel the emotions and experiences of the times into their work, helping society process collective feelings even if circumstances do not immediately change.
I’m gonna ask you that all the emotions that we are feeling, give those emotions, give that experience to those people that you are writing about and writing for.
It gets back to my point about helping people just put a label on it, even if it doesn’t change the circumstance,” she added.
Reflecting on election night 2024, Harris shared a deeply personal reaction: “I couldn’t articulate anything else — I kept saying over and over again,
‘My God, my God.’ I had never felt that level of pain and grief except when my mother died, and it was grief for the country. I knew what was going to happen.”
Harris has described the 2024 election as historically close, insisting that Donald Trump does not hold a clear mandate, despite his victory in both the Electoral College and the popular vote.
At a book tour stop in Houston, she reiterated, “He does not have a mandate! That is not a mandate!”
Her perspective, as detailed in 107 Days, covers Joe Biden’s attempted re-election bid and her own experience during the campaign, highlighting the emotional and political turmoil of that period.
The Los Angeles event, which was invitation-only, brought together cultural figures to discuss social and political issues.
Harris dubbed her discussion series “The Freedom Tour”, framing it as an effort to engage Americans in dialogue about the challenges facing the nation.
Responding to Harris’s remarks, White House spokesperson Kush Desai told Fox News, “Kamala Harris should listen to an audio recording of her cackle of a laugh before calling anyone crazy.”
Harris continues her nationwide book tour, sharing her reflections on the 2024 election and urging Americans to grapple with the emotional and political upheaval she describes in 107 Days.
