Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has assured that justice will be served in the case of a Nepali student from KIIT University in Bhubaneswar, who allegedly took her own life on the night of February 16. The Chief Minister also appealed to Nepali students who had left the campus due to the incident to return and resume their studies. This assurance was conveyed through the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), which issued an official statement.
Through a post on its official X handle, the Odisha CMO stated that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had personally spoken with Nepali representatives Sanjeeb Das Sharma and Navin Raj Adhikari. During this conversation, the CM reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring justice for the deceased student, Prakriti. Furthermore, he assured the Nepali officials that all necessary measures would be taken to restore peace and normalcy within the KIIT University campus. In light of this, he earnestly urged the Nepali student community to return to their academic activities without fear or hesitation.
To address the situation comprehensively, a high-level discussion was convened at the State Guest House. This crucial meeting was attended by key officials, including Ministers Mukesh Mahaling and Suryabanshi Suraj, along with Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja. Their primary objective was to formulate a plan for restoring stability and order at KIIT University. Additionally, the Foreign Minister of Nepal, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, was involved in the discussions. She reportedly engaged in a telephonic conversation with Minister Suryabanshi Suraj to discuss the ongoing developments and concerns regarding the safety and well-being of Nepali students in Odisha.
Meanwhile, the KIIT University administration has expressed deep regret over the unfortunate incident. In response to the tragedy, the university has taken strict disciplinary action against certain members of its staff. As part of this initiative, two security guards have been dismissed from their duties, while two senior officials, along with one senior administrative officer from the KIIT International Office, have been placed under suspension. The university authorities have also made repeated appeals to the Nepali student community, urging them to return to the campus and continue their academic pursuits without apprehension.
The tragic incident has caused widespread concern among students, faculty members, and administrative authorities alike. Both the Odisha government and KIIT University are making concerted efforts to address the situation with the utmost seriousness, ensuring that justice is delivered and the university environment remains conducive to learning and personal growth for students of all backgrounds.
