Jammu & Kashmir Police on Wednesday detained a preacher from Mewat, Haryana, in connection with what investigators describe as a “white-collar” terror module linked to a private university in Faridabad.
Officials said Maulvi Ishtiyaq was apprehended and brought to Srinagar after a search of his rented accommodation inside the Al-Falah University complex led to the recovery of over 2,500 kg of ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate, and sulphur — chemicals used in improvised explosive devices.
He is expected to be formally arrested after interrogation.
Nationwide Search for Second Vehicle Linked to Blast Suspect
Alongside the probe into explosive materials, security agencies across Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh have launched an urgent search for a red Ford EcoSport allegedly owned by Dr. Umar Nabi Bhat, the prime suspect in Monday’s blast near Red Fort.
The vehicle hunt follows the seizure of a Hyundai i20 believed to have detonated near the historic Delhi monument, killing 13 people and injuring more than 20 others, several of whom remain in critical condition.
Heightened Security & Forensic Trail
A multi-agency vehicle checking drive is underway across several states, with police monitoring physical checkpoints and real-time CCTV networks to spot the EcoSport.
DNA samples of Umar Nabi’s mother have been sent to the AIIMS Forensic Lab in Delhi, while samples from his father were collected in Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir. These will be matched with unidentified remains recovered after the blast.
PM Modi Visits Injured, Reviews Updates
Returning from Bhutan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went straight to LNJP Hospital to meet blast victims, enquire about their recovery, and receive a detailed briefing from doctors and senior security officials.
Government sources said he continues to be updated closely on every development in the investigation.
J&K LG Calls for Public Cooperation
At the Foundation Week event of Islam University, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the attack and urged public vigilance, saying terrorism had harmed generations in the region but today’s youth were choosing development and opportunity.
Faridabad Car Dealer Detained
In Faridabad, police detained Amit, the owner of Royal Car Plaza, for questioning over the sale of the Hyundai i20 used in the explosion.
Investigators are tracing the vehicle’s ownership chain and verifying how it ultimately reached the prime suspect.
Sources said the probe aims to determine who brought the car to the dealership and how Dr. Umar Nabi came into contact with the seller.
