Tiger Shroff Opens Up on Career Setbacks, Hindi Cinema’s Struggles, and His Hopes from Baaghi 4

By Ruby Zaidi

Known for his remarkable athleticism, martial arts expertise, gravity-defying stunts, and killer dance moves, actor Tiger Shroff has carved a unique niche for himself in Bollywood.

Son of veteran star Jackie Shroff, Tiger made a power-packed debut in 2014 with Heropanti, which established him as the fresh new action hero on the block.

With back-to-back high-octane entertainers like the Baaghi franchise and War, he quickly became a youth icon and fitness inspiration, admired for his sheer dedication, discipline, and physical prowess.

However, the last couple of years have not been smooth sailing. Despite his efforts, Tiger has been struggling to deliver a clear box-office hit. Films haven’t lived up to expectations, but the actor remains unfazed, holding on to his optimism and passion.

In an exclusive interaction with Bollywood Reporter, Tiger candidly shared his thoughts on his journey, the changing face of Hindi cinema, and his excitement for his upcoming film Baaghi 4.

On His Career Setbacks

When asked about the string of underwhelming performances of his recent films, Tiger admitted the phase has been tough but insists on looking at the brighter side: I am an optimist and don’t allow negative thoughts to take over my mind.

I look forward to better days and exciting projects that are lined up. Right now, I am restless, happy, excited, blessed, and grateful because the audience will soon see a very different side of me in Baaghi 4. I eagerly await their response.

The last few years have definitely not been easy, but they’ve been a learning curve. I believe the struggles have helped me evolve into a better artist.”

On the Challenges of Hindi Cinema

Tiger also addressed the wider issues plaguing Bollywood, where even big-budget films are struggling to perform. Hindi cinema is facing challenges due to repetitive and weak storytelling, competition from world-class global cinema, and the rise of OTT platforms, which have reduced theatre-going audiences.

Added to that are high production costs, which aren’t always sustainable. Today’s audience is very selective — they want compelling stories and meaningful engagement.

For Bollywood to bounce back, filmmakers must adapt to new viewing habits, prioritize strong content, and connect with audiences in innovative ways.”

On Baaghi 4 and His Hopes

Speaking about his much-awaited next film, Tiger sounded both confident and cautious: Baaghi 4 is a very well-made film, filled with all the spicy ingredients of mass entertainment — action, emotion, drama, and thrill.

But the truth is, there is no fixed formula for a hit movie. I just keep my fingers crossed and hope that this film strikes a chord with the audience and rocks at the box office.”

Tiger Shroff, despite facing setbacks, continues to be one of Bollywood’s most hard-working stars, admired by fans for his sincerity and determination.

As Baaghi 4 gears up for release, both the industry and his fans are watching closely, hoping this will be the comeback that reaffirms his star power.
