KAUSHAMBI: A horrifying incident in Sirathu, Kaushambi district, neighbouring Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), has sent shockwaves through the region after a 22-year-old woman was brutally murdered inside her home on Wednesday evening.
The assailants, who arrived on a motorcycle carrying a box of sweets, slit her throat in what police are calling a “carefully planned and cold-blooded killing.”
Murder Carried Out in Broad Daylight
The incident took place around 4 p.m. in Ward No. 11, Kanungo Ka Pura locality of Sirathu Nagar Panchayat.
The victim, Anjali Patel (22), was at home when three unidentified men arrived on a bike. Her mother-in-law, Sumitra Devi, was working in the fields, while her father-in-law, Mohan, had gone out with his goats.
Only Anjali and her young nephew, Aryan, were at home at the time.
According to eyewitness accounts, the three men walked into the house with a box of sweets.
Aryan, who was playing outside, was handed some money by the visitors and asked to fetch water from a nearby shop. Believing them to be acquaintances, the child left the house.
Moments later, the killers handed the box of sweets to Anjali, lured her into the back room, and slit her throat with a sharp weapon. They then wrapped her body in a bedsheet and fled the scene on their motorcycle before anyone could react.
When Aryan returned, he found the house unusually quiet. Shortly after, Anjali’s brother-in-law, Chhotu, arrived and called out for her.
When she didn’t respond, he went upstairs and discovered her blood-soaked body lying under a sheet in the back room. Horrified, he ran outside shouting for help, and soon the neighborhood was in chaos.
Police Investigation Underway
Upon receiving the alert, Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Kumar, Additional SP Rajesh Singh, and Circle Officer (CO) Satyendra Tiwari rushed to the scene with a police team.
Forensic experts conducted an extensive examination of the site, collecting evidence and fingerprints.
SP Kumar later confirmed that four specialized teams have been formed under the CO’s supervision to track down the culprits.
The police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby houses and establishments to identify the attackers and trace their escape route.
Preliminary findings suggest that the killers were known to the victim or her family, as the entry into the house appeared friendly and non-confrontational.
Investigators are exploring personal and domestic angles, including possible motives related to revenge, harassment, or property disputes.
Shock and Fear Grip the Local Community
The shocking murder, carried out in broad daylight in a residential neighborhood, has left residents terrified. Locals gathered outside the house as the news spread, demanding immediate justice for Anjali.
Many expressed anger that three armed men could execute such a heinous act in broad daylight and escape so easily.
Police presence in the area has been increased, and officers are patrolling nearby localities to ensure public safety.
Authorities Vow Swift Action
SP Rajesh Kumar assured the public that the perpetrators would be apprehended soon. This is a gruesome and premeditated act.
We have vital clues from the crime scene and nearby cameras. The culprits will not escape justice,” he said.
As the investigation continues, Anjali’s family remains in deep shock, mourning the loss of a young woman whose life was cut short in an unimaginably brutal way.
