The situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) remains sensitive yet stable, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi stated on Monday during a press conference ahead of Army Day. He acknowledged that while there is still a degree of standoff in the region, efforts must be intensified to rebuild trust between the Indian and Chinese militaries.

General Dwivedi noted that progress has been made in Depsang and Demchok, two friction points where disengagement occurred in October. Patrolling and grazing activities in these traditional areas have resumed, marking a step towards normalization.

“Our deployment along the LAC is balanced and robust, and we are fully prepared to handle any situation,” he assured. The Army chief emphasized ongoing efforts to enhance border infrastructure and develop capabilities to ensure security and readiness.

Jammu and Kashmir: Ceasefire Holding but Challenges Persist

Regarding Jammu and Kashmir, General Dwivedi stated that the situation is largely under control, with the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan along the Line of Control holding firm. However, he noted that infiltration attempts from across the border continue, as does the presence of terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan.

“In the past year, 60% of the terrorists eliminated were of Pakistani origin,” he revealed, underlining the persistent challenges posed by cross-border terrorism.

Manipur and Indo-Myanmar Border

Touching upon the situation in Manipur, General Dwivedi highlighted that collaborative efforts by security forces and proactive government measures have brought the situation under control. However, he noted that sporadic incidents of violence continue, and the armed forces are focused on restoring peace in the region.

Along the Indo-Myanmar border, the Army has enhanced surveillance and operational dominance to address any potential spillover of the ongoing conflict in Myanmar.

Strength and Preparedness

General Dwivedi concluded by reiterating the Indian Army’s readiness and commitment to addressing challenges across all fronts. From the sensitive LAC to internal security issues, the Army remains steadfast in its role of ensuring national security and maintaining peace.
