Assam CM Alleges Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s Family Had Close Links With Pakistani Agent

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday levelled serious allegations against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, claiming that Gogoi and his wife, Elizabeth, had close associations with a Pakistani national described as an agent, Ali Tauqeer Sheikh.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma alleged that Sheikh visited India 13 times between 2010 and 2013 and was actively engaged in promoting what he termed an “anti-India narrative” at the global level.

Stepping up his attack, the Chief Minister claimed that a Pakistani firm had employed Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth, who is a British national, and later transferred her to India.

Sarma further alleged that Ali Tauqeer Sheikh paid her salary and assigned her the task of collecting sensitive information related to India.

According to Sarma, Elizabeth allegedly gathered information concerning climate-related issues and policy matters after Narendra Modi assumed office as Prime Minister.

He claimed that this information was sourced from Intelligence Bureau (IB) channels and subsequently passed on to Sheikh.

The Assam Chief Minister reiterated his charge that these alleged activities point to links with Pakistan, renewing political pressure on the Congress MP.

No response or clarification from Gaurav Gogoi or his family was included at the time of Sarma’s remarks.

The allegations have added a sharp edge to the ongoing political confrontation in Assam, with national security and foreign links becoming central to the exchange.
