At least five people lost their lives, and several others were critically injured in a major road accident on National Highway-16 near **Haladiapadar in Ganjam district on Saturday when a truck collided with multiple motorcycles in a horrific crash.
Officials said the heavy vehicle was reportedly traveling on the wrong side of the highway when it struck three motorcycles and ran over the riders, killing five of them on the spot.
The injured victims were rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, where their conditions have been described as serious.
Senior police and highway officials quickly reached the scene and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the tragedy.
Local authorities said the truck driver is expected to be arrested soon as part of the probe.
