Ayodhya, the holy city along the Saryu River, is abuzz with activity as it prepares for one of the grandest Diwali celebrations yet.

This year, the spotlight will shine on Sunday night, when a staggering 26,11,101 earthen lamps are set to illuminate Ram Ki Paidi and 56 ghats, aiming to secure a Guinness World Record.

The city streets and ghats are already adorned with vibrant, larger-than-life decorations, welcoming the thousands of devotees and tourists flocking to witness the spectacle.

From cultural performances to laser shows, eco-friendly fireworks, and an awe-inspiring drone display depicting episodes from the Ramayana, the festivities promise an immersive experience for all.

Preparations began early, with volunteers meticulously arranging the lamps. Over 33,000 volunteers, including students from 28 degree colleges, 30 inter-colleges, and members of local social organizations, poured 73,000 liters of oil into 55 lakh cotton wicks.

The lamps are arranged in precise layouts across segregated zones, each monitored by stewards to ensure every diya is lit in perfect unison at sunset.

Even minor discrepancies, such as unlit lamps, are carefully tracked and deducted from the final count to meet Guinness standards.

One of the highlights this year is a 32-foot-tall Pushpak Viman at Ram Ki Paidi, showcasing scenes from the Ramayana, offering visitors an unparalleled visual experience.

The entire event is meticulously documented using QR codes to track participants, under the supervision of Guinness World Records officials, while Uttar Pradesh police ensure citywide safety and security.

Deepotsav is not just about records; it is a celebration of tradition. Families light diyas, make rangolis, distribute sweets, and cleanse their homes.

Last year, Ayodhya celebrated Deepotsav by lighting over 25 lakh diyas and setting a record for the most people performing aarti simultaneously, with 1,121 vedacharyas participating in the ritual.

This year’s celebrations promise to surpass all expectations, merging devotion, culture, and spectacle in a dazzling tribute to Diwali and the city’s rich heritage.
