Ayodhya:
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said Ayodhya’s history bears witness to repeated attempts by forces driven by religious extremism and vote-bank politics to turn the sacred city into a theatre of unrest.

Addressing devotees during the Pran Pratishtha Dwadashi, marking the second anniversary of the consecration of the Ram Temple, the Chief Minister asserted that such designs repeatedly failed, unable to alter Ayodhya’s spiritual character or disrupt its civilizational continuity.

Speaking at the grand complex of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, Adityanath traced the city’s modern history through what he described as three defining milestones.

He recalled August 5, 2020, when for the first time since Independence a Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of the Ram Temple; January 22, 2024, when the consecration of Ram Lalla took place; and November 25, 2025, when the saffron flag of Sanatan Dharma was hoisted atop the temple’s main spire.

Together, he said, these moments reshaped Ayodhya’s destiny and restored its place at the heart of India’s cultural consciousness.

The Chief Minister, who was joined by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, said earlier regimes had allowed narrow political interests to overshadow Ayodhya’s ethos of peace.

“Despite being a city untouched by war and conquest, Ayodhya was subjected to unrest and even terror threats.

Attempts were made to spill blood on this sacred land,” he said, adding that such efforts were thwarted both by robust security measures and what he described as the city’s divine protection, symbolised by Lord Hanuman’s presence at Hanuman Garhi.

Rajnath Singh, who also performed rituals at temples within the Ram Mandir complex, was praised by the Chief Minister for his long-standing association with the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.

Adityanath said the consecration of Ram Lalla after nearly five centuries was not merely a religious event, but an emotional moment of national fulfilment.

The Chief Minister credited the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for providing sustained organisational direction to the Ram Temple movement, while acknowledging the role of saints and leaders brought together under the guidance of Ashok Singhal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

“With this collective resolve, the symbols of historical subjugation were removed, and the path was cleared for a grand temple,” he said.

Referring to governance initiatives, Adityanath spoke about the rebranding of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act as VG-RAM G, describing it as one of the largest decentralised employment programmes to date.

Under the scheme, he said, unemployed villagers would be assured up to 125 days of work within their own gram panchayats, reducing distress migration while strengthening rural economies.

Highlighting security improvements, the Chief Minister recalled how a major terror strike planned in 2005 was foiled, and stated that Ayodhya today stands far more secure due to strengthened policing, surveillance, and coordination among security agencies.

“Faith now walks hand in hand with safety,” he remarked.

Adityanath also underlined Ayodhya’s dramatic transformation over the past few years.

He said more than 45 crore devotees had visited the city in the last five years alone, a surge that reflects renewed confidence and infrastructure readiness.

Drawing a contrast with the past, he noted that earlier Ayodhya struggled with basic amenities—electricity, sanitation, roads and public safety—and religious expression often invited administrative suspicion.

“Today, Ayodhya is India’s first solar city, with an international airport, improved rail and road connectivity, modern civic facilities and a global spiritual footprint,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the city now stands as a model of how heritage, faith and development can coexist.
