Ban on Entry at Magh Mela Is Against Humanity, Says Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi

Reacting sharply to statements by some seers calling for restrictions on the entry of people from other faiths into the Magh Mela in Prayagraj, All India Muslim Jamaat national president Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilly has termed such remarks as “against humanity” and harmful to social harmony.

In a video message that went viral on social media on Saturday, Maulana Razvi said religious fairs and festivals have always been a medium to promote India’s shared culture, civilisation, and traditions, from where messages of humanity, brotherhood,d and mutual respect flow.

He described the Magh Mela as an event that symbolises faith, tolerance,ce and coexistence, and expressed concern over repeated attempts by a section of religious figures to make exclusionary statements on the eve of such occasions.

He said it had become an unfortunate pattern that ahead of every major festival or religious congregation, some sadhus and saints issue controversial remarks, turning sacred occasions into platforms for divisive rhetoric.

According to him, discussing or advocating a ban on the entry of people belonging to other religions before the start of the Magh Mela reflects a mindset that weakens social unity and spreads hatred.

Maulana Razvi alleged that such statements contribute to polarisation and damage the country’s social fabric.

He emphasised that saints and religious leaders are moral guides whose responsibility is to unite hearts, eliminate hate,r ed and promote love and compassion, not to create divisions.

Using language that sends a negative message to society, he warned, only deepens mistrust among communities.

Appealing to all religious leaders, Maulana Razvi urged them to uphold and strengthen India’s centuries-old Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb, which is rooted in mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.

He said that the need of the hour is to spread the message of brotherhood and harmony, focusing on bringing people together rather than driving them apart.
