Bengaluru ATM Heist: Multi-State Trail Tightens as Police Net Two More Accused

In a fresh breakthrough in the high-stakes ATM cash-van heist that stunned Bengaluru earlier this month, city police arrested two more suspects—Dinesh and Jinesh—pushing the total number of arrests to nine.

The duo was traced to Bengaluru and Chennai, respectively, marking another crucial turn in what investigators describe as one of the most meticulously executed robberies in recent years.

The case first shook the city on November 19, when a group of men—posing as officials from the Reserve Bank of India and the Income Tax Department—intercepted an ATM cash-replenishment vehicle near the iconic Ashoka Pillar.

In minutes, they decamped with ₹7.11 crore, leaving the city’s police scrambling to unravel the audacious operation.

Among those already arrested is Annappa Naik, a serving police constable attached to the Govindapura Police Station, who has since been suspended.

His suspected involvement has added a deeper layer of intrigue—and concern—about insider facilitation in the planning or execution of the heist.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Lokesh B. Jagalasar, confirmed that investigators have so far recovered ₹6.55 crore, with efforts to trace the remaining amount still underway.

He declined to comment on potential future arrests, citing the ongoing and sensitive nature of the probe.

Early leads show the accused blew over ₹1 lakh soon after the robbery—splurging on a high-end ₹40,000 mobile phone and hopping between lodges across multiple cities to evade detection.

The investigation has since widened dramatically. Multiple teams have followed both technical and on-ground clues across Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, with some units extending the chase all the way to Goa.

As the trail tightens, police believe the final pieces of the puzzle are now within reach—bringing the curtain closer to falling on one of Bengaluru’s boldest heists.
